Hedenstrom, Evens, Helsley & Young
Hedenstrom, Evens, Helsley & Young is a contemporary jazz quartet comprised of four unique and individual voices that come together as one sound. Saxophonist Aaron Hedenstrom, pianist Gabe Evens, bassist Jack Helsley, and drummer Matt Young have collectively performed across the world and received a variety of honors and accolades as performers and composers.

Saxophonist and composer Aaron Hedenstrom has performed across the United States as a jazz saxophonist, clinician, and composer. Aaron has written numerous big band works, string arrangements, small group pieces, and chamber works. Some of his collaborations have included saxophonist Bob Reynolds, the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, vocalist Marlene Verplanck, vocalist Don Most and S. Carey. As a saxophone performing artist, Aaron has been featured as a guest artist by universities such as University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, Wichita State University and Eastern Washington University. Aaron exclusively plays and endorses Keilwerth saxophones.

Gabe Evens is the Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano, Composition and Arranging at the University of Louisville, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Studies Program. He has performed throughout the United States and in Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, and France and has played with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Miami City Ballet Orchestra, the University of North Texas Symphony and Concert Orchestras, the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band and the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band. As an arranger and composer, Gabe has released five albums of original music, written commissions for Sheena Easton and Kate McGarry with the Cape Symphony Orchestra, and for Neena Freelon with the John Brown Big Band. He has had numerous compositions performed by chamber and large ensembles from the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra to the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band.

Jack Helsley is a bassist and educator based in Oklahoma City. He is a recent graduate of The University of North Texas where he was a teaching fellow and bassist with the One O’Clock Lab Band. After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Music from the University of Louisville, he toured extensively throughout Europe, Africa and the U.S. with the United States Air Force Band. As a freelance bassist, he has been featured on numerous recordings of jazz, pop, rock, and country artists, and has performed with such notable talents as Jamey Aebersold, Lynne Arriale, David Baker, Bob Berg, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Joey Calderazzo, Bob Dorough, Michael Feinstein, Benny Golsen, Ernie Watts and Jeff Watts. He holds a Doctorate of Music Performance from The University of North Texas and a Masters in Jazz Studies from Indiana University. He has been on faculty at Anderson University, DePaul University, Eastern Illinois University, Marian University, University of Indianapolis, Wabash College and Western Illinois University. He is also formerly the co-host of the Jazz Radio show “Have You Heard” on WICR-FM.

Matt Young is a multi-award winning drummer, composer, and educator based out of Denton, TX. Matt has performed internationally including recent performances at the 30th Annual Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran, Iran, the Voll-Damm Jazz Festival in Barcelona and XXIII Festival Internacional de Jazz Ciudad de Almeria in Almeria, Spain, UK, Canada, Mexico, all throughout Japan and all around the US. In January of 2017, Matt released his debut solo record entitled, Headspace, on which Matt played all the instruments and recorded, programmed and mixed all of the music. Editor-in-Chief of Nextbop, Anthony Dean-Harris, spoke of the release saying, "It's as much a jazz album as it is a drum & bass release, which can appease some folks' wider ears. It's a neat little five song collection that's straddling the lines of all sorts of genres in the best of ways.”

HEHY is releasing their debut album, The Living Room Sessions on July 28, 2017 on Shifting Paradigm Records and performing a series of concerts across the U.S. in support of the new album.
